The most personal EP I’ve ever made is out today

Hey friends,

“The coldest and darkest hour of the night is the hour before the sun rises.” - my father said this sentence to me when I was struggling with my anxiety disorder for the first time. At the time, it helped me tremendously to never lose faith that dark times will be followed by lighter ones. And I still think about it a lot today. When I read this sentence as a quote in his last novel, I was so pleased to find it there. Because I could be sure that this sentence apparently also had a deeper meaning for him.

My father didn't live to see the sunrise on his last night. I know from my mother that he had a nightmare that night and was scared when he woke up in the middle of the night. Hours later, he couldn't be woken up anymore. I will never know what happened to him in his last hours, but I have thought about it a lot.

For this reason, “So finster die Nacht" (engl.: How dark the night) is probably the most personal EP I've ever made. It describes a feeling of faintness, sadness and darkness. While at the same time having moments of hope and light. The music doesn't just try to make the sudden and inexplicable death of a loved one understandable. It also is a reminder of how writing the songs and playing them for myself again and again and again gave me a lot of support and strength during this difficult time. And I hope so much that these songs will now give others support and strength in difficult times. Always remember that whatever it is that you are going through, you are not alone.

You can listen to the full EP here.

P.S.: All songs are live performed and recorded and mastered by my good friend Julian Schneid. You can watch the live performance of my 2nd single “Angst” below:
