Resonance Is Memory: My best live set to date

Back in November, I played a set at Sonic Playground in Berlin that I can't quite shake. Not perfect—far from it—but the kind of performance where you're so focused on what's happening in the moment that you forget to worry about whether it's "good enough." A few weeks later, I sat down in my Cologne studio to capture a variation of that set, and what emerged became "Resonance Is Memory" - my best set to date (imho).

Why this set matters to me

Live electronic music performance is always a conversation between preparation and chaos. You build your structures, you know your sounds, you rehearse your transitions. But the magic—the real magic—happens when you let go of control and respond to what's actually revealing itself in the moment. This 50-minute journey through melodic techno represents some of my best work not because everything went according to plan, but precisely because it didn't.

Some experiments worked exactly as I'd hoped. Others took unexpected turns that forced me to adapt on the fly. Every sound in this set carries the memory of the Berlin performance, the studio preparation, and the spontaneous decisions made in real-time during recording. The latter taking more and more over the major part and I love everything about it.

The technical side (for the gear heads)

I deliberately kept the setup focused around my core hardware: Push 3, Moog Subsequent 25, and Ableton Live. Push 3 has the stems from my tracks that I can remix together in real time. Moog Sub 25 is my sonic playground (no pun to the similar named event intended): I shape the sounds it plays on the fly with filter cutoff, resonance, ADSR amp and filter controls, noise, different modulations, glide times and overdrive. I also play the keyboard live, sometimes even on top of an existing MIDI sequence, which creates some really nice results. Try that for yourself!

Why I turned off the ads

Here's something I rarely talk about openly: the economics of what we do as independent artists. YouTube mid-roll ads generate revenue, sure, but they also shatter immersion. You're deep into a melodic section, lost in the hypnotic build, and suddenly—an ad for car reseller pops up (“Raaalf Schuuumacher?!” - my German folks know the deal).

For this set, I chose to disable mid-roll ads completely. I want you to experience these 50 minutes the way they were meant to be experienced: uninterrupted, immersive, continuous. The way you'd hear it in a club or at a festival. The way music should be heard.

Of course, this means the advertising revenue from this video will be minimal. But that's okay. If this set resonates with you (another pun intended), there are other ways to support the work.
