When Ambient Music Becomes Your Shelter
Hey friends,
I've spent the last weeks working on an ambient live setup that I'm extremely happy with. It currently consists of the Ableton Push 3 Standalone and Move, all loaded with different sounds when I start. The idea is to have a blank page and then build the performance from scratch: Most of the synths are played live while one synth is sequenced by Sting 2 to give me a generative melody to react to. So to say I duet with the machine. So this 47-minute performance called "Shelter" is completely improvised - no pre-recorded clips on Push, just making music in a cozy atmosphere and whatever comes through. Since Fabian showcased his setup on my YouTube channel I wanted to go more in that direction and it is crazy how much fun this is.
Also the past weeks have been rough - I've been dealing with severe anxiety attacks related to my depressive disorder, which left me feeling emotionally numb. Making music was really hard, so I started building this ambient system initially just as a technical experiment. But it turned into some sort of safe space where I could find joy in creation again. Where things are easy and not complicated. Like a shelter for creativity.
I'm thinking about developing this setup further - maybe replacing the Move with Digitone or Mother-32 to jam alongside the Push 3. What would you be curious to hear?
Thanks a lot for being around and take good care of yourselves out there. 💜
Stay creative,
Miles
